Ray Harryhausen helped make stop-motion animation into an art form. The innovative and inspiring films he made, from the 1950s on, revolutionised modern movie-making. This exhibition presents Ray Harryhausen’s work in its broadest and most comprehensive form ever seen, including previously unseen and newly restored works from his incredible archive.
This film explores Harryhausen’s career as a special effects master, who had no limits other than his own creativity. From his very first sketches, through model making and bringing characters to life that terrorised and delighted audiences alike, Titan of Cinema illustrates his creative process.
This display would not be complete without the presence of Harryhausen’s creatures. From Jason and the Argonauts, see classic characters like Medusa, the Kraken, and Bubo the owl. He also boasts a legendary skeleton army.
View sketches and storyboards from Harryhausen as well as original movie posters. See how Harryhausen used Dynamation to show models interacting with actors on film – the illusion he developed and used to incredible effect. Try your hand at fighting the powerful Talos and deadly Harpies in their green screen setup.
