Discover the Freedom of the Burgh of Inverness
Inverness’ Freedom of Inverness exhibit takes you on a tour of all their intricate traditions through an oath, a scroll, and a symbolic marriage to the city. A Freedom in Inverness maintains its roots in the medieval history of the city; it was once a symbol of privileged social and political status, but now honours outstanding service to society and the city itself. This display includes objects relating to several recipients of the Freedom, including freedom caskets and tickets, which were both presented to late former Provost Allan G. Sellar OBE in 2002.
