Discover The Orkney Museum
From Orkney’s Stone Age to the Vikings and Picts, as well as up to the present and beyond, the Orkney Museum tells the story of Orkney. A range of activities and old photos are available to entertain younger visitors. In addition to possessing an impressive collection, this museum has changing temporary exhibitions.
A house once stood on the site of the Orkney Museum – Tankerness House. For three centuries, it belonged to the family of Baikie, whose estates earned the house its name, officially opening as a museum in 1968. Visitors can see how the Baikie Library and Drawing Room looked during its heyday as a family residence.
